This research was conducted to study purchase type, preference, and satisfaction for dessert food and beverages among university students in the Seoul and Gyeonggi area. The research consisted total of 17 categories. The study size was 301 surveys out of 350 (86.0%), collected from October to November 2017. The collected surveys were statistically analyzed using the SPSS22 system. Students purchased dessert food and beverages mostly on ‘lunchtime’ (63.1%). Purchase frequency was ‘2-3 times’ a week (37.9%), and their expense never exceeded meal expense (92.7%). Dessert foods were purchased at ‘supermarkets’ or ‘convenience stores’ (52.5%), whereas dessert beverages were purchased at ‘cafes’ or ‘dessert stores’ (55.5%). The students looked forward to improvements in these dessert food and beverages, with ‘lower price’ (54.2%) being the most popular response, as well as ‘various high quality products’ (15.9%), ‘diet products’ (16.6%), and ‘traditional Korean products’ (13.3%). The most preferred dessert food was ‘fruits’ (3.83), followed by ‘pastries’ (3.71), ‘sandwiches’ (3.63) with significant difference (p<0.01). And, the most preferred dessert beverage was ‘icecream’ (3.85), followed by ‘fruit juice’ (3.80), ‘dairy beverage’ (3.74) with significant difference (p<0.01). The overall satisfaction and dissatisfaction of dessert food and beverages were 3.40 and 2.93. The highest satisfaction was experienced in ‘improved mood’ (3.91), whereas, the highest dissatisfaction was due to ‘expensive price’ (3.45±0.88).
