The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of winter forest exploration activities on young children’s scientific attitudes and scientific inquiry ability. The study was conducted with a total of 32, 5-year- old children. In each class of two childcare centers, in G City, Gyeonggi-do, 16 children were distributed among an experimental group and a control group. The experimental treatment of scientific exploration activity in a winter forest was conducted over 16 sessions for 8 weeks. Study results are as follows: First, winter forest exploration activities generally improved young children’s scientific attitudes such as curiosity, volunteering, positivity, forthrightness, objectivity, openness, critical thinking, judgment reservation, cooperation and perseverance. Second, winter forest exploration activities generally improved young children’s scientific inquiry abilities such as observation, classification, measurement, reasoning, prediction and communication. These findings suggest that winter forest exploration activities are effectively promote young children’s scientific attitude and inquiry ability.
