The purpose of this treatise is to contemplate that how the Taoism philosophy is embodied in the antique verse, which reflects the phase of the Chosun dynasty era - about 500 years. Accordingly this dissertation debates about how the thesis infiltrates into antique verse, focusing on philosophical standpoint rather than ecclesiastical and occult viewpoint.
Firstly, there are thirty pieces of poetry which recite ‘Bulimoolhaeki (不以物害己)’. These verses enables us to analogize that the predecessors composed the verse with the major premise, Myeong chul bo shin.
Secondly, there are only a few verses that recite ‘Jwamang(坐忘)’. It seems that this phenomenon was caused by the situation on which the boundary of Taoism ethics couldn't permeate among Confucian scholars.
Thirdly, ‘Hyunhae(懸解)’ is the state of emancipation from the anguish in life when one frees himself from the major three desires. This treatise researches not only that the pain of human life is caused by the material gain, but also that the man's agony has no concern with the change of the mundane world.
Fourthly, Shin Kwang-han's works are the most outstanding ones among other verses which recite the state of ‘Simjae(心齋)’, clearing the spirit. It is because that the spread of antique verse writers is vast and extensive.
As stated above, the social stratums of writers are various and the reign ideology was standardized as the Confucianism during 500 years of the Chosun dynasty. Thus it is tolerably difficult to find the embodiment of the Taoism philosophy in the antique verse works. This dissertation, however, is meaningful to develop the way of understanding the antique verse. Henceforth, the insufficiencies and inadequacies will be supplemented and scrutinized continuously.
