The object of this essay is to seek Desirable Ways of studying Korean Taoism. Based on methodological reflection by examining previous studies I will try better approach. The fundamental subject is to find new documents, study historical evidence, and translate them into korean. If necessary it is important to investigate taoist cultural phenomena. And we must take interest in abroad studies on chinese Taoism, especially on Korean Taoism. I think it is meaningful to establish Korean unique scholarship.
I can summarise Desirable Ways of studying Korean Taoism as follows. Firstly we must define related terms more clearly. Concerning this I suggest to define Taoism more widely such as including philosophical Taoism. Secondly it is necessary to widening objects of studying Korean Taoism. We may take interest in New Religions of Korean modern society and quasi - taoist phenomena in Chosun dynasty. Thirdly I think it very useful to estimate rightly Korean taoism in the light of korean culture. Until now we often make little of korean taoism because of its week social role. But in studying the fundamental structure of korean culture it is necessary to understand more deeply Korean taoism. Lastly we must investigate the role of taoism in contemporary society related to pending problems as example the problem of environment, feminism and new science movement. Practice of Qigong, Meditation movement and science of Qi may be considered as new subjects.
