A Study of Interpretative Method in Poetry TeachingNo, ChulIn poetry teaching, for the learner to subjectively receive literary works, there need be processes and methods in which the learner interpret poetry on their own. But in lecture rooms, as certain views gain authority over others, views or interpretations tend to become fixed. To be free from such fixed interpretations, one must have correct understanding of interpretation in the first place. Also, to avoid arbitrary interpretation, one must read the texts in correct grammatical contexts. Nonetheless, there will be disagreements in interpretation and disputable interpretations will not be gone. This is because interpretations differ according to the social and cultural background, knowledge, and intuition of the interpreters. In this respects, various interpretations help understand the world, viewed from different angles. In order to gain a variety of interpretations, the learners' participation in the process of interpretation is an absolute necessity. Because various points of view of the participants can be brought up in the process of interpretation. Various interpretations, though, can't be acquired just by the correct reading of grammar or vocabulary of the work. A figurative cognition, which is characteristic of poetry, must be set forth. In addition, the interpreter's fresh and challenging views create original interpretations. The interpretation of poetic works, nevertheless, must be done based on the characteristic of the genre of poetry. It is of significance to make out the figures and sentiments created by various elements of the poems. To these are added the interpreter's knowledge and cultural experiences. For this reason, many interpretative methods based on the characteristic of poetry, such as interpretation through recitation need to be developed.
