Kibotongpyeon(紀譜通編) is a book which Song, Si-yeol complied, supplementing Chu Hsi-related documents such as the beginning and end of Chu-Tzu and the fact of revering Juja, with reference to Juja-silgi(朱子實紀) and Juja-yeonbo(朱子年譜). This is compulsory literature for studying Ju Hsi and Juja theory, placing emphasis on the value of biographical data. Kibotongpyeon was revised and complemented for around 20 years, led by Song, Si-yeol and his pupils, Yun, Jeung and Kwon, Sang-ha. A copy of the first edition was circulated in around the year 1660 and later, although the date cannot be ascertained, was assummed to have been reprinted.
In the course of compiling, Kibotongpyeon(紀譜通編) accepted what was written in Yeonbo and Silgi as it was and nearly excluded the compiler's personal opinions. Even though Kibotongpyeon included describing differences by comparing the same kind of various books(교감기) with the form of headnotes and the minute explanatory notes of two lines of small letters of comments which are in a line( 小字雙行), strictly speaking, they are from other documents. The reason why Song, Siyeol complied it only with the original text from Juja-related documents without his own personal opinions was considered because Song, Si-yeol intended to focus on his role of study book in a study of Juja theory.
Kibotongpyeon which was compiled in around the year 1660 can be summarized in two of the following value and significance. First, Kibotongpyeon which systematically organized Juja-yeonbo and Juja-related documents made an approach to historical research on Juja possible and breathed new life into the study of Juja. Second, Kibotongpyeon as a fundamental study book helped Song, Si-yeol completed Juja-daejeonchaeui(1678), Juja-eoryusobun(1679) and made it possible to comprehensively understand Juja theory through the masterpieces. Furthermore, Kibotongpyeon was considered to contribute to Namdang Han, Won-jin's Juja-eollon-dongigo which is rated as the best outcome from neo-Confucianism / Sung Confucianism in the late Joseon Dynasty.
