Report Errors
How can an journalistic value judgment acquire universal approval and sympathy of its community members regarding public affairs in Korean journalism? Relying on Kant’s Critique of the power of judgment, this study tries to deduct analogically a priori conditions of reflective judgment for journalism, which is characterized by its four moments as stated in Kant’s pure taste judgment: disinterested interesting, subjective universality, unpurposive purposiveness, and exemplary necessity. Kant’s genius concept is also employed to explain the mediation faculty of reflective judgment in journalism from particular facts to common/universal values. This study emphasizes that power of reflective judgment in journalism should function as discursive power station for social deliberation in order for news and comments to induce community members’ approbation regarding public affairs.
