Inquiry in science begins by empirical observation and by this observation one can discover problems, can collect information about the problems, and can detect ways to solve these problems. This indicates that observation is the most basic element in a scientific inquiry process. Observation is important as a basic element in science and learning and expanding one’s observation ability is the critical element in expanding process skills. This study aimed to analyze the observational way and activity of general elementary school students and gifted students with exceptional proficiency in science during their observation activities. For this purpose, we studied and analyzed the observational way and activity of 28 general elementary school students in their 6th grade and 10 gifted students from the science education center for gifted students during their observation activities. The results indicate that there was no difference in the observation way and activity of gifted students and general students. This study's result shows that appropriate teaching and feedback regarding the observation results would be needed to develop the observation skills of students.
