The purpose of this article is to examine preliminary elementary teachers’ teaching confidence on physical education, and find out some factors influencing teaching confidence. Six participants who are seniors in A University majoring in elementary teacher education program were recruited. The study collected data from personal documents, in-depth interviews, and participant observation. Personal documents written by each participant were collected and then each participant was asked to engage in the in-depth interviews. During each participant conducted micro-teaching experiences, participant observations were performed to examine their teaching behaviors. For data analysis, the constant comparative method for inductively analyzing data was done to categorize themes connected with the research questions regarding their teaching confidence and factors influencing their teaching confidence. The results of the study are as follows. Female participant s indicated low confidence on teaching psychomotor, cognitive and affective learning domains as well as class management controlling students and creating class environment. In addition, the study found the factors influencing teaching confidence such as the limitation of physical activity courses in the teacher education program and the limitations of physical education class they experienced during their school ages. The author of the study suggests that teacher education programs should play an important role for preliminary teachers not only in developing motor skills, but also forming practical teaching knowledge for learning to teach psychomotor, cognitive, and affective learning domains through physical activity courses. In addition, physical education teachers in K-12 should have more efforts to make it better for all students to engage in physical education considering students who have different individual characteristics.
