As creators, young learners have constructive powers to find and produce brand new ideas, by using different lines, tones, shadows, constructions, and compositions. They make interpretation in their own way and integrate the sense of their experiencing world into their visual representations (Burton, 2007). As a comparative case study, the research compared young students’ (from kindergarten to 5th grade) observation and memory drawings with verbally written observational descriptions. In addition to the role of visual art as a stimulus for children’s development and creativity, the researcher in the study proposed the appropriate teaching and learning method (such as drawing theme/object and the time span for drawing activities) depending on the level of development through comparing children’s observational and memory drawing activities and interviews after the two drawing activities.
