This study aims to analyze the institutional factors affecting on college dropout rates. Among many types of college dropout, this study excludes stop-out and transfer. This study used data drawn primarily from the EDSS (Edu-Data Service System) of Korean Ministry of Education and Korea Education and Research Information Service. This study analyzed influence of institutional factors on college dropout rates using collected data from 186 four-year universities. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis was used for this analysis.
The results are as follows. First, final enrollment rate and competition rate of applicant had positive influences on college dropout rates. Second, the educational cost per student is the financial factor that influence to reduce college dropout rates. Third, accommodation rate of dormitory had a positive influence on college dropout rates, while faculty-student ratio had a negative influence on college dropout rates. These findings are discussed and further studies on this topic are suggested.
