The present paper addresses the two types of knowledge in Korean EFL learners' interlanguage grammar-implicit knowledge and explicit knowledge. In order to see if different tasks elicit different types of knowledge of English unaccusatives from Korean EFL learners, the present study analyzed two sets of data collected from 41 participants. The participants were asked to perform (ⅰ) an untimed grammaticality judgement task, which was expected to tap into their explicit knowledge and (ⅱ) a fast free-writing task, which was expected to elicit their implicit knowledge. The data analyses revealed that the participants' collective performance in the fast free-writing task was significantly better than that in the untimed grammatical judgement task, suggesting that the learners' implicit knowledge of English unaccusatives is superior to their explicit knowledge. In addition, their judgement on grammatical unaccusative sentences were found to be significantly more accurate than that on ungrammatical unaccusative sentences, suggesting that EFL learners' judgement on grammatical sentences, and that on ungrammatical sentences, reflect implicit knowledge and explicit knowledge, respectively.
