Danjae Shin Chae-ho's 『Joseonsa yeongucho』is the representative work of the view and the description of history of 1920s, developing period(the 3rd period) in his historical science. The meaning of 『Joseonsa yeongucho』in the Korean historiography can be arranged like next paragraphs.
First, 『Joseonsa yeongucho』 has pioneered the new area in the history of Korean people and has indicated its methodology. Danjae indicated specifically the way to translate Idu marked on the names of nation, place, government office. This can be said very great work that makes history of Korean people deepen.
Second, it has recovered the area of the history of Korean people shrunk by traditional historian and distorted by the late Japanese imperialism historian, and at the same time, it has corrected the system. Danjae indicated unique interpretation like South and North two Nakrang thought(南北 兩 樂浪說) and the Former and later Samhan(前後 三韓說) thoughts. Furthermore, he criticized that Pyeongyang(平壤) and Paesu(浿水) had been confused with contemporary Pyengyang and Daedong river, and he reorganized Old Pyeongyang=Haeseong(海城), Old Paesu=Ganrakhun(???). With this, it has not only recovered the area of the history of Korean people infected traditional historian with toadyism and distorted by the late Japanese imperialism historian who had wanted to make korea invasion and colonialism ideology and it has corrected the system, it has but also expanded the extension and its amplitude.
Third, it has set up the spiritual coherence of the history of Korean people as NangGa Thoughts. Danjae evaluated Myo-cheong as the man who represented Independence Party and Progressive Thoughts, but Danjae lamented that Myo-cheong had been defeated by Kim Bu-sik who represented Toadyism Party and Conservation Thoughts because of his rash and thoughtless the battle of Seokyung and it has broken off NangGa Thoughts.
Fourth, it has raised the importance of historial material and criticism in modern historical science. Danjae reported the examples that Chinese historians had with wrong way of criticism, especially the wars or the territory matters related with them had been forged and absurdly changed. Furthermore, in almost every study, Kim Bu-sik, based on toadyism. had eliminated a number of historical materials and made the history of Korean shrunk when he wrote 『Samkuksagi』and Danjae has showed detail proof and it made us realize how important is the way to choose historical materials and criticism in historical study.
In short, 『Joseonsa yeongucho』is not only the representative work of maturity in Danjae historical study in 1920s, but also can be evaluated as the representative work of study level and result of Korean historical academy world until then. That is, 『Joseonsa yeongucho』is the great work which has pulled Korean historical study by Shin Chae ho who has been evaluated ‘Great historical material investigator’, ‘Lanke in Joseon’ as ‘the forerunner in Joseon historical study.’
