Since China's reform and opening to the outside world, foreign trade has developed quickly, in which goods proportion has been increased in high quality and high value. Container transportation met the needs of safty and speed of the goods. Since nearly 20 years, China's port container transportation has developed rapidly and, developing potential must be great in the future.
Main reasons are as follows.
1. Economy of China's coastal region and inland continues developing, especially inland development must be sped up.
2. China laid stress on developing road and railway and improved inland transportation conditions.
3. Many ports of China are building or rebuilding container docks, as a result, container loading capacity has been strengthened.
4. Port internal and external environment is being improved.
5. Ship large-scale is advantageous to bringing into play the port capacity.
6. Coastal feeder transportation system is being built. There are following items to be paid attention to developing container transportation in China's ports.
1. Inland is the future greatest potential in developing China's foreign trade. Inland ports should be ilt and multi-transportation should be carried out among the ports.
2. Macro-adjustment and macro- control should be strengthened and, trans-ports and feeder ports should be determined. Trans-ports should be laid stress on developing so as to promote feeder ports.
3. As China's port container terminals are public, government should organize for public-service measures and, port authority should be initiative.
