As of 2017, the civil service English exam (CSEE) Grade 7 at the national level (G7.N) was replaced with these five EFL tests: TOEIC, TOEFL, TEPS, G-TELP and FLEX. The purpose of this study is to examine the difficulty level of vocabulary and readability in the reading section of the five standardized EFL tests (TOEIC, TOEFL, TEPS, G-TELP, and FLEX), utilized for the purpose of recruiting public officials in Korea. WordSmith 6.0, GSL range, VocabProfiler, and an online readability calculator were used to analyze the vocabulary level and the readability level. For the data analysis of the five EFL tests, three actual tests were extracted from each test preparation book. As a result of the analysis, TOEFL and G-TELP showed the highest difficulty level while TOEIC and TEPS displayed the lowest difficulty level among the five tests. FLEX was found to have a medium difficulty level on the four measurements. The result of this study can be utilized by the EFL test developers to control the vocabulary level or readability level of the text in the future, and by test-takers to use it as information for selecting amongst the five EFL tests.
