The purpose of this study was to examine the correlation between scientific basic knowledge and scientific inquiry ability of biologically gifted students. Subjects were 54 gifted students in biology. They are applicants for admission of Science Education Institute for the Gifted. The examinations to evaluate scientific basic knowledge and scientific inquiry ability were tested. Scientific basic knowledge test included 20 biology-based problems, and scientific inquiry ability test consisted of five divisions: mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and earth science. Either division consists of five domains : perceiving problem, designing inquiry, performing inquiry, interpreting data, and concluding. Scores of scientific inquiry ability of science gifted students have much higher than those of scientific basic knowledges. The results suggested in examinations to select science gifted students in Science Education Institute for the Gifted that the ratio of scientific inquiry ability versus scientific basic knowledges should be changed highly.
