The purpose of this study was to analyze the inquiry abilities of hypothesizing and designing an experiment of biologically gifted students. The subjects were 28 gifted middle school students (10 females and 18 males), who were from the Science Education Institute for the Gifted adjacent for university. A questionnaire was developed for analysing students' abilities of hypothesis formulation and experiment design. The criteria to assess whether students’ hypotheses were scientific or not include scientific verifiability and logical validity, and those of designing an experiment were logicality, elaboration and consistency of the experimental process. The results of this study suggested in the gifted education for the biologically gifted students that the practical lessons related to the hypothesis or design of an experiment must follow after the precise and specific education program related to biological sciences. The framework for evaluation to analyze students' hypotheses and designing an experiment could be utilized to enhance the inquiry ability of biologically gifted students.
