The purpose of this study is to review the area of biotechnology in the science-related textbooks used in a high school, such as ‘Living and Science,’ ‘Science,’ ‘BiologyⅠ’, ‘BiologyⅡ’, ‘Higher Biology’ under the 7th Curriculum, and to find whether they will serve to perform more efficient research. To achieve this purpose, all the above-mentioned textbooks under the 7th Curriculum are compared and analyzed in terms of general conditions of inquiry activities, and reading materials of the techniques of the biotechnology. The results are as follows. Firstly, each textbook introduces different techniques of the biotechnology, and there are differences in the frequency of them. Among them, Higher Biology and BiologyⅡ textbooks give a lot of space to the techniques of the biotechnology. Secondly, 8 textbooks of BiologyⅡ differ in the themes and the frequency of the inquiry activities in the techniques of the biotechnology. While, most of inquiry activities are given to the data interpretation, investigation and discussion, and the experiment and observation are not included at all. Thirdly, the inquiry process is largely centered on the low leveled inquiry process such as the interpretation and its analysis. On the other hand, it is less centered on the high leveled inquiry process such as the hypothesis test and the experiment plan. Fourthly, the textbooks focus on the joint task rather than the individual one in the process of inquiry activities. Fifthly, the reading materials of the techniques of the biotechnology are largely given to the STS(Science, Technology and Society) and the scientific
