Purpose: As the self-determination ability appears in the normal development process of children, it has been used in a variety of learning programs on children. In this study, it composed the stuttering therapy program using the self-determination and tried to find out its effect by applying it to pre-schooling aged children with stuttering. Methods: The target was the 5 years and 1 month old male child who had no neurological damages or language developmental disorders. The self-determination ability was composed with levels of self-awareness, goal setting, and problem solving and pre-test and post-test were done to find out the effect of the program. It analyzed core behavior, secondary behavior, and speaking rate. Results: First, the frequency of core behavior was reduced. Second, although raising hands and turning heads appeared as the secondary behavior in the pre-test, they did not appear in the post-test. Third, in the post-test, the speaking rate became faster than the pre-test. Conclusions: The self-determination ability can be used in the treatment program targeting on children. It can be regarded that the treatment program using the self-determination is effective to children with stuttering. In the future, it is expected that the self-determination program for the treatment of stuttering children should be developed and applied.
