Purpose: The parenting attitudes have been considered to be very important in the development of children in the aspects of language, emotion, and social abilities. The purpose of this study was to examine the parenting attitudes of mothers in children with stuttering. It may give a clue to figure out the relationship between parenting attitudes and the severity of stuttering in the childhood. Methods: A total of 36 mothers who have children with stuttering participated in this study after agreeing the consent form of participation. The mothers completed a survey form with 48 questions that were categorized into four areas of affective, rejective, autonomous, controlling attitudes. To analyze the collected data, Descriptive statistics and Pearson’s product-moment correlation were conducted. Results: There was no significant correlation among Parenting Attitudes (affective, rejective, autonomous, controlling attitudes) and stuttering. There were significant correlation among 4 parenting attitudes except between controlling and affective and between controlling and autonomous. Conclusions: Affectionate parenting attitude were strong and reject attitudes appeared to be relatively weak in this study. The study can not find significant correlation between parenting attitudes and the severity of stuttering. Based on these results, parenting attitudes may not affect the severity of stuttering and there will be other factors that may lead to the severity of stuttering. In the future study, the parenting attitudes should be investigated between children with stuttering and without stuttering.
