With globalization and the transformation into knowledge-based society, the social needs of the words-of-foreign-origin are rapidly increasing increased in most countries in the 21th century. In Korea, there are many words adopted from various countries and even elementary school students get to be accustomed to using them. While learning and interacting with those words since early childhood especially with the development of the internet and the easy access of overflowing information, they have no idea about there origins.
Recently, English proficiency is functioning as a basic requirement to secure a position in a job market. The rate of English population is soaring and their English competency is also apparently improved. Nevertheless, many people still confront a trouble with inarticulate pronunciation with Korean accent. It is in part caused by the routinized usage of adopted words mispronounced in daily life. The words originated from Japanese not an exception. As people hear and tell Japanese words such as well-known names or places since early ages, it is difficult to correct their pronunciation despite very easy ones.
On the other hand, the Bible is the book which is being read by the most people. In Korea, as Christian occupies the highest rate among the people with religion, the Bible is therefore one of the most influential printed matters in Korean society. For this reason, it is important to look into the Bible from the point of view that is the influence of inarticulate pronunciation related to the words-of-foreign-origin. Some mispronounced words are inscribed in the Bible of Korean edition merely with the reason of a convention even though many of them have been corrected.
Korean language is well known as the most scientific language in the world. Korean language, in comparison with other languages, inscribes a wide range of phonics despite it does not include all of the phonetic elements of human language. Therefore, when inscribing the adapted words including the translation of the Bible, it should be considered that Korean inscription presents the most similar pronunciation of the original word. It implies that not only scholars of linguistics but translators should be concerned with this issue and that both should collaborate to improve Korean inscription of adopted words from foreign languages.
