The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of plagiarism-prevention training and the patterns of plagiarism specifically in an L2 argumentative essay-writing test. Further, the present study aims to investigate how EFL university students react on the plagiarism-prevention training. Twenty university course-takers in an advanced English writing course took the summary-writing tests in which students are required to integrate source information into their essays. Two tests were implemented: The first one prior to the plagiarism-prevention training and the second one posterior to the training. Then, they made responses on a survey. The results suggested that the number of the sentence-level and word-level plagiarisms has been significantly decreased as a result of the plagiarism-prevention training. Survey analysis evidenced that students became sensitively aware of the plagiarism and reported the benefits of the training. the researchers also found that the copying texts were mainly found in the noun. This paper would suggest that it is necessary to incorporate plagiarism-prevention training into the English composition class and to state a phrase of warning against the plagiarism in the test items.
