After the emancipation, Kim Gi-rim set up the nation's future as a primary task to deal with. Welcoming the emancipation, he wished the newly established democratic government should be free from the interference of major nations through making its own autonomous decisions. This sort of belief was the outcome of his self-awareness acquired as he had shut himself up in his native village at the end of Japanese imperialism. During the days, he anguished over the reasons for dishonoring poetics and poetry; and as a result, he found out the concrete reality of the colony. The results of his speculation were applied harmoniously to the political scenes of the liberation period, and the contents can be summarized in two parts as below.
First, after he deliberated the contact point between literature and politics, he recommended other writers to strive for composing works rather than to take part in political spots in person. Even when arguing for so-called 'literature cooperating with politics', he emphasized the essence of literature grounded on the mutual respect between the two parts. The reason why he viewed writers' ideology-oriented behavior with concern was that he regarded the ideology they adhered to then was the very factor that encouraged national disunion.
Second, Kim Gi-rim dreamed to be 'the poet of the nation'. This is originated from his view of criticism based on his respect for the universal value of literature established as he pursued more than the national literature in a narrow sense from the colonial period. His literary belief made him not join the line of his coworkers going north over the border but remain behind in the south. He anticipated that the political system of the north established based on classism ideology would never secure the essence of literature.
As seen above, the political awareness that Kim Gi-rim exposed during the liberation period was thoroughly nationalistic. He criticized all the behaviors that impeded national union and eagerly participated in the projects for public enlightenment in order to found an independent nation with its people as the subject. His political awareness that valued the nation above anything should be lighted up in a new point of view; and as the extension of it, his poetics and poetry publicized around that time need be reexamined as well.
