This paper provides information on newly discovered literary work called MiGang-ByeolGok. This work was hitherto unknown to the academia. Handwritten MiGang-Byeolgok was found along with HwangSan-ByeolGok in a book that recorded various types of miscellaneous information.
In this paper, it is argued that Yun Heui-Bae(윤희배) is the author of MiGang-ByeolGok. In October 1883, Yun wrote a long petition requesting reverence of MiSu Heo-Mok(허목) in Confucian shrines. Yun is probably the author because the content of HwangSan-ByeolGok, which is contained in the same handwritten book, is identical with or similar to the content of the petition.
This song is composed of three parts: introduction. body Ⅰ, body Ⅱ, and conclusion. Therefore, the song follows the traditional format of songs in Chinese characters: GiSeungJeonGyeol (introduction, development, turn and conclusion). The song commemorates and praises Heo-Mok. The writer of the song reveres and describes the stature, sprit, learning, philosophy, and attitudes toward life.
Finally, this paper argues that MiGang-ByeolGok is based on the perspective that Confucian tradition that began with Yi-Hwang(이황) was bequeathed by Jeong-Gu(정구) and Heo-Mok(허목). In the history of Korean literature, this song, which treats the eight famous places of MiGang near shrines, belongs to the genre of "beautiful sceneries.
