This paper aims at looking into background concerning creation and particular contents of 〈BaekSangRu-ByeolGok(백상루별곡, 百祥樓別曲〉, that is Rujeong Gasa(Korean traditional long type poetry treat of pavilion) written by royal family Ree, Hyun(이현, 1540～1595) in 1595, in this time, there was a war between Joseon(朝鮮) Dynasty and Japan. 〈BaekSangRu-ByeolGok〉 was motivated by ‘BaekSangRu(백상루)’, magnificent national pavilion in northwest fortification of An-ju(안주), which was major base for China.
Ree stayed for a long time An-ju city, because he was designated for ambassador receiving general from Ming(明) dynasty. But no one had came from china for several month, and Ree hung around in pavilion BaekSangRu many times. Then some people in An-ju city asked Ree to make a song for BaekSangRu. They had a proud of a postcard like Scenery of BaekSangRu, but there was no song to praise this.
However, Ree had no confidence in a song and he just had a merit to make a poetry that was accustomed to royal classes. But he couldn’t reject the ask, and created the 〈BaekSangRu-ByeolGok〉. So in this work, there are two inclination, one for anonymous, one for poet himself.
This work was composed with two constitution, most of all first part reveal pavilion BaekSangRu as if it’s unfamiliar structure. Next, a perspective view from pavilion depict famous scenery of northwest province and a near view include pavilion itself and Cheong-chun(청천) river flow around the city. these first part is related to description of scenery which for anonymous demander. But second part contain sensibilities, experience and historical recollection of poet himself, sometimes it looks like a dairy.
Ultimately these both side of content contribute to complete the works and make a new typed Rujeong Gasa. Practically Rujeiong Gasa concern with the life in rural in which enjoy the poetical enthusiasm. But 〈BaekSangRu-ByeolGok〉 has different contents, because it has different motivation from another Rujeong Gasa, so end up a special works.
