This study aims to comprehend Durkheim's sociology and transformation of liberalism in the end of the 19th century. Liberalism of the natural right and the social contract, which establishes modern political order through the French Revolution, has limits in the front of the social that is born in the process of the development of capitalism. State, which is based on the individual as a rational and conscious subject, must make efforts of the integration of the community in the birth of the social that is not resolved into the individual. Durkheim, endowing the peculiarity to the social, establishes sociology as a new discipline and provides solidarity as the ideology of the integration of the third Republic. In the tradition of French political liberalism, he emphasizes the role of the state for extension of individual liberty and lays the state in the center of social integration. Obviously, he says that intermediate groups prevent the activity of the state which can intimidate the liberty of individuals. His sociological problematics mean the formation of new liberalism between individualistic liberalism and Marxism, which dominated the 19th century.
