This paper is focused on the poetic theory of Heo Kyun 許筠 (1569~1618) who is a distinguished scholar in the mid-Jo Seon 朝鮮 Dynasty. The main argumentation is that the author is not agree with the traditional viewpoint about Hak San Cho Dam鶴山樵談 and Sung Soo Si Hwa惺?詩話, which are Heo's more valuable opus, have been equated by the scholars before. The author considers that there are lot of differences between tow works, such as time of creating, the stylistic rules and layout, and the opinion of poetics, etc. And all of those reflect the process of development, changing and deepening of Heo's poetic theory.
If we could say that the writing of Hak San Cho Dam is based on the opinion of Heo Bong 許? and his friends, the Sung Soo Si Hwa, however, was the result of Heo's much more literary experience and exchange of 18 years after.
Hak San Cho Dam is the book in which Heo tried hard to describe the situation of poetry world in some short term, but Sung Soo Si Hwa is much more different. It is the book in which provided us the picture of the development of poetry world in a much long period from Choi Jiwon 崔致遠 of Silla 新羅 to Seon Jo of Jo Seon Dynasty when is about 800 years long.
Relative to the former which is a little bit numerous and jumbled, the latter concentrated on the evolution of poetry world of the Dong Kuk 東國(Eastern Nation). Because of its profound content and clear-cut train of thoughts Sung Soo Si Hwa has much more value.
