This essay is intended to investigate the meaning of death and its romanticised aspects in the poetry of the early 1920's. At this ture that: korean modern poetry was taken basic form of western genre and began to be expressed individual sensibility and liberal rhythm, all sorts of literary coreries' poetry were full of the ideas and images of death. The prevalence of death and its romanticising were related to the process of modem subjectivity's augmenting. Especially 'Your death' was dealt as romantic and rhetorical death, in that: the passionate rhetoric and gesture were expressed and the individuality was experienced. And the inner sense recognized that life and death ate opposed to each other. In poems that such sense made life/death, outside/inside into space metaphor, the subjectivity rum up more morbid and closing mind This seemed to be derived from the infinite desire of modern man. We can see such desire in the fantastic poems with dream structure and soogs for aesthetic eternity with dearh's transcendence in spite of dealing with actual death case. The fatal condition of the finite of death is the best theme that speaks for the infinite modern desire paradoxically. And death is the field that is inevitably reorganized by modem knowledge and cognition. The excess of death in the poetry of the early 1920's is the process of reorganization of cognitional order and the result of the coteries' aesthetic strategy.
