Since the advent of modern society that values rationalism, the subject of death has not been taught in general public education and been considered as null curriculum. In the arena of Christian education, what little teaching there was on death has not had much impact on learners due to its focus on knowledge-based doctrine. The fact that we can die any time and that there always exists a high possibility of sudden death requires Christian death education to be taught from a new perspective in order to help people prepare for holy death as a Christian. From this observation, the researcher discusses three main topics: (1) What is death? In attempting to answer this question, the researcher examines two major types of death: biological death due to loss of lung, heart and brain functions and theological death, which is severance from God. (2) Approaches to Christian death education are explored. There are three types of approaches: a catechetical approach that emphasizes Christian doctrine and holy rites concerning death, a phenomenological approach that pursues the meaning of various experiences of death, and a praxis approach that stresses changes in life (3) The researcher searches for a new direction in Christian death education from the perspective of a praxis approach. This paper makes three suggestions for Christian death education: hermeneutical understanding of death, rejection of the culture of death within the context of a liberating praxis, and a spiritual life on the basis of a spiritual praxis.
