The effort of describing the contents of history textbook objectively has been made on self-consciousness from which the European should renounce a European-oriented viewpoint. In the East, however, history has still been described and controlled by the authorities for their own sake. Especially, in a case of Japan which was firstly westernized among Asian countries, it is quite noticeable that the Japanese right-wing group has played a leading role in the distortion of history more than any other countries. As shown in this study, the most significant problem is that Korean history has been described as a colony from ancient up to modem times.
Indonesia which appears in Korean textbooks is introduced as a Muslim-dominated country, which has abundant natural resources, and has many potentials leading industrial development rapidly. On the other hand, Korea is positively described in Indonesian geography textbooks on the whole, although there is not a lot of information. The following descriptions related to Korea have to reconsidered:

1) The Yellow Sea is located between Korea and Japan;
2) The Sea of Japan should be described as the East Sea according to
international recommendations;
3) The Jangbaek Mountains, the Bbebbi Mountains, and the Dooman Mountains
are in the north;
4) Yallu River should be corrected as Aprok River.

It seems very desirable that Indonesian geography textbooks not only precisely analyze the reason of Korean economic development in some aspects but also comparatively keep balance dealing with the current situations between South and North Korea. However, it is necessary to correct the following mistakes: concentration on the industrial field caused by lack of fertile soil; industrial development led by hydroelectric power owing to geographical conditions; economic growth led by the unlimited support of the United States of America.
Entering the Millennium era, Indonesia as well as other countries recognizes the importance of social studies education, and the main point regarding a global society becomes more and more influential as the advent of a new paradigm. Neighboring Asian countries including Indonesia must show mutual understanding and international harmony in their treatment of modem and contemporary historical events with each other. The writers sincerely hope that each country will start this new century filled with hope by constructing strong solidarity with all the peoples of Asia, regardless of nationality or race.
