The purpose of this study is to systematically confirm the effects and participation experiences on reading grit and self-efficacy of college students who voluntarily participated in a extracurricular reading program. Participant recruitment was promoted online through the school system and applications were accepted. The research results are as follows: First, there was a statistically significant difference in reading grit, and the average score increased in all individual trends.Second, there was a statistically significant difference in self-efficacy, and in terms of individual trends, the average score increased for all participants except participant 7. Third, regarding the experience of participating in the reading extracurricular program, the most common response was that they participated because it was a psychology-related program, and although they had no special expectations about the operation method, they hoped that it would be operated comfortably and without pressure because it was an extracurricular program. They participated with the expectation that they would be able to talk about various things with each other through the program, and they said that they felt comfortable while participating in the program and that it was a time when they could learn a lot from each other by listening to various opinions. This study empirically verified that the reading extracurricular program was effective in improving college students' reading grit and self-efficacy, and satisfaction was confirmed through participation experience. The significance of this study is that it verified the effectiveness of competency education for college students.
