In Korean society, illegal drugs have become a serious problem. Drug tourism might be regarded as a reason for the problems caused by illegal drugs. Therefore, this research aims to investigate the perception of drug tourism. This study used ground theory as the main instrument. The data was collected by conducting interviews with people experienced with tourism in areas where drug use is legal. The results showed that the exposure and accessibility of drugs are the main points of drug tourism. Also, the individual value plays an imperative role for defensive behavior of tourists. Moreover, the accessibility of illegal drugs in tourism destinations led tourists to regard drugs as a significant risk in their daily lives. Additionally, the results indicated that such an experience could become the motivation for further studies on the negative aspects of drugs. The results of this work could be used for establishing government policies on the regulation and safety of illegal drugs.
