From the Nakba to the recent Israel-Hamas conflict, Palestinian citizens have endured profound vulnerability due to numerous conflicts. Despite these challenges, Palestinian citizens demonstrate collective actions of remaining and persevering in their homeland.
This phenomenon is known as Palestinian Sumud. Numerous studies have sought to analyze it through various lenses, such as normalcy, resistance, and resilience. This study endeavors to analyze Palestinian Sumud using the framework of collective resilience. It posits that collective resilience offers a more appropriate lens for understanding Palestinian Sumud, surpassing the limitations of Western-centric resilience models. Specifically, this study contends that changes in collective cognition and relationships significantly influence the collective action of Sumud. By employing binary logistic regression, this study demonstrates that Palestinian Sumud manifests as an expression of collective resilience, shaped by factors of collective cognition and relationships. Furthermore, by conceptualizing the essence of Palestinian Sumud as collective resilience, this study aims to foster a more accurate understanding of Palestinian citizens, who continually navigate cycles of adversity and recovery.
