This study aims to examine the relation between individual knowledge and collective knowledge in group-level peer relationships and the national and cultural context. The following research questions are identified. (1) Is collective knowledge the sum of individuals who comprise a peer group? (2) Considering the power distance of the state and culture or the in-group consciousness in collectivism, what peer group elements affect the collective knowledge? (3) Do the heterogeneous properties (age, gender, major) of the group members in the context of collectivism work negatively towards collective knowledge? To find the answers to these questions, a survey was conducted with 78 peer groups of 378 students who may differ in age, gender, and major of study. Results revealed a correlation between the sum of the individuals’ knowledge and the total amount of collective knowledge, particularly a positive correlation between the group members’ age and specialty (major or the level of individual knowledge) and collective knowledge. On the other hand, the heterogeneous majors of study among the group members showed a negative correlation with the collective knowledge. Age and gender did not show a statistically significant relation with collective knowledge.
