This study was conducted to explore novice physical education teachers’ perceptions of the future direction of physical education and the corresponding preparation and roles of teachers. The purpose of this study was to understand novice teachers’ perceptions of changes in the future educational environment and to analyze the preparation and practices of teachers for the development of physical education. For this purpose, in-depth interviews were conducted with five novice physical education teachers using a qualitative research method, and the interview contents were categorized and analyzed by theme. The results were as follows: Novice physical education teachers perceived the future direction of physical education as promoting students’ holistic growth and enhancing their physical, emotional, and social competencies. Additionally, to adapt to the changing educational environment, the teachers emphasized the importance of introducing new teaching methods and utilizing digital technology. They also highlighted the need for an educational approach tailored to the individual characteristics and needs of students. The teachers aimed to help students develop teamwork, self-directed learning, and problem-solving skills through physical education classes. The results suggested that novice teachers redefined their roles in response to the changing educational environment and made various efforts to enhance students’ competencies. This study provided an understanding of the future direction of physical education and the preparation process of teachers, indicating the necessity for continuous professional development and institutional support for teachers.
