In this study, the potential anti-aging properties of Poncirus tripoliata fruit extract were investigated, especially focusing on its anti-oxidant effect and anti-aging effect. In addition, the anti-aging effect of the skin was investigated by naringin, an active ingredient in Poncirus tripoliata fruit extract. First, to check the antioxidant power, we conducted a study on the elimination of DPPH(2,2-diphenyl-1-pyrylhydrazyl) and ABTS (2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzoizolin-6-sulfonic acid) radicals. In particular, both Poncirus tripoliata fruit extract and naringin exhibited concentrate ion-dependent antioxidant effects, confirming their efficacy in neutralizing active radicals. In addition, the evaluation of superoxide disutase(SOD) -like activity also confirmed the anti-oxidant effect in a concentration-dependent manner. In particular, the Poncirus tripoliata fruit extract and naringin did not show cytotoxicity in fibroblasts at concentrations up to 500 μg/ml, and cell proliferation was significantly increased by 13.23% at this concentration threshold. Furthermore, we investigated the effects of Poncirus tripoliata fruit extract and naringin on the expression of matrix metaloloproteinase-1(MMP-1), a key enzyme involved in collagen degradation. The Poncirus tripoliata fruit extract inhibited MMP-1 expression by 74.93% at a maximum concentration of 500 μg/ml, whereas naringin inhibited MMP-1 expression by 88.51% at the same concentration threshold. In conclusion, in this study, evaluation of Poncirus tripoliata fruit extract and naringin, an efficacy component, confirmed the potential efficacy on strengthening skin elasticity, and we believe that these results will play a particularly surprising role in preventing skin aging. Based on these findings, we believe that they can be applied to future clinical studies and the development of functional materials.
