Yi Zhongtian’s Pinsanguo(≪品三國≫) is a remarkable work that successfully combines the popularity and the academism. Pinsanguo turned Three Kingdoms’s publishing and cultural market was led by Japan and South Korea over the past century over to China again. Here in this article I will identify the secret of it’s popular success and academic value of Pinsanguo through citation criticism.
Pinsanguo had a motif gained by reviewing the existing academic writings, and tried to identify the historical truth of the Three Kingdoms periods and reinterpret it’s contemporary significance of that periods. To this end, Yi Zhongtian used the work of Lv Simian with frequency in Pinsanguo Part I. In addition to by developing the teaching style suitable for broadcast media, Pinsanguo got a lot of followers of the modern audience.
In addition, Pinsanguo have succeeded in figuring out the macroscopic and structural meaning of the Three Kingdoms period by borrowing from the social structural perspective of historians. To this end, Yi Zhongtian used the work of Tian Yuqing and Chen Yinque with frequency in Pinsanguo Part II.
Consequently, Pinsanguo will remain a monumental works earned both the popularity and academism in full research history of the Three Kingdoms.
