There are many books and papers on Sodongpa. However, there are very few articles on the study of Sodongpa in terms of Buddhist thought and practice compared to its importance. Some of the writings on the subject of the Sodongpa even have no Buddhism at all. The reason for this is that, above all, the study of the Sodongpa is so famous in Chinese literature that the study of the Sodongpa has been inclined towards literature. However, it was Buddhism that had the most ultimate influence on his life and studies, and the So-dong-pa reached a very deep state in thought and practice. In particular, he attained great enlightenment through meditation and rose to the position of great master. Until now, there are books and papers that have studied the academic relationship between Buddhism and Sodongpa in Korea. Based on such achievements, this thesis approached the two aspects of ‘Pratītya-samutpāda(Connection)’ and ‘Absence of ego’, which have not been attempted yet. Sodongpa overcame the Connection-worldview and lived in the great freedom of Absence of ego for later years. However, his Absence of ego was not a Absence of ego cut off from reality. The reality he faces every day is a reality in ‘empty, bright and quiet’. He was faithful to his position as a public figure entrusted to him, and at the same time, he was truly passionate about writing, as well as the realm of art. His perspective led to a new interpretation of Confucius"s Sa-mu-sa (there is nothing wrong with thinking). In other words, it was interpreted in terms of ‘reflection’ rather than ‘thought’, which accurately judges and processes real-world objects.
