This study examined the trend of questions of classical literature in current Chinese-major secondary school teacher selection test. First, the study investigated the evaluation fields and categories, and based on that, the classical literature question items were extracted from the previous questions of secondary school teacher selection test of 2014 to 2020. As a result, total of 28 items were found from the tests during the last 7 academic years. Thus, the study examined these 28 items in various perspectives such as item type and its percentage, composition and evaluation tasks, the proportion of single questions and compound questions, distribution by period, and evaluation contents by area to see the trend of questions of current secondary school teacher selection test.
Chinese teachers should consider literary attainment and cultural cultivation in addition to imparting Chinese knowledge and skills to students. For this reason, an understanding of Chinese classical literature is a prerequisite for pre-service teachers. It is hoped that the results of this study will serve as a learning guide for pre-service teachers to learn about classical literature, and will serve as an opportunity for test developers to develop questions with high validity.
