This study aims to systematically examine the effects of input- and output-based Focus on Form (FonF). A meta-analysis was conducted of a total of 113 effect sizes taken from 47 studies, and the main findings are as follows. First, while the effect size of output-based FonF (0.798) was greater than that of input-based FonF (0.750), the difference was not statistically significant. Second, upon analyzing effect size according to moderator variables, the proficiency variable influenced the effect sizes of both input-based and output-based FonF, and the higher the proficiency, the greater the effect size. The variables of students per class and level of treatment intensity only influenced the effect size of input-based FonF, where the effect size grew with a larger class and higher level of treatment intensity. Furthermore, the duration of the treatment variable showed a statistically significant difference only for the effect size of outputbased FonF, where longer duration displayed higher effectiveness.
