The purpose of this study is to interpret Hume’s Moral theory as a Virtue Ethics, and to show how Hume’s Moral theory can deal with the criticism of Virtue Ethics. Hume’s Moral theory shares similar features with Virtue Ethics, given that the moral agent is considered more important than the moral action in the moral evaluation. Hume’s Moral theory as a Virtue Ethics can be a new approach to solving the problems faced by Virtue Ethics, such as action-guiding power, relativism. Based on the True-judge described in Hume’s ‘Of the Standard of Taste’, we can solve the Action-Guiding Power problem by setting up ‘those who has virtue’ in specific moral situation. Also, we can take a naturalistic approach on the basis of ‘Jonathan Haidt’s theory of evolution’ influenced by Hume and the ideal observer that Baillie has interpreted from Hume's moral theory. In doing so, relativism can be solved as we guarantee the objectivity of Virtue Ethics based on the commonality of human nature and the ideal observer. In conclusion, Hume’s Moral theory can contribute to consolidating the position of Virtue Ethics as the alternative of Duty ethics.
