Paying special attention to the advent of multiculturalism in local, national, global contexts, the present study attempts to come to grips with the thorny problem of economic justice in the Acts of the Apostles in such a way as to explore women in a multicultural diaspora. This study scrutinizes the passages in Acts, which deal with the roles of women in redistribution of wealth in earliest Christianity: (1) Hellenist and Hebrew widows (6:1-7); (2) Tabitha and widows in Joppa (9:36-43); (3) Mary, the mother of John Mark, and Rhoda, the servant girl (12:6-19); (4) Lydia and a slave girl with a spirit of divination (16:11-40); (5) Priscilla (18:1-28). It is, therefore, our contention that the women in Acts contributed significantly to the formation of the early Christian community, especially in the spirit of equity, by sharing their possessions with those in need. It is also suggested that those women in a multicultural diaspora have so vigorously demonstrated the openness of earliest Christianity to the poor and dispossessed across spatial and temporal constraints that modern readers are able to reconsider multicultural identity closely interconnected with the changing global economy. It would be no exaggeration to state that this study is greatly indebted to Sang Hyeon Yoo, an ever-inspiring teacher among Korean biblical scholars.
