Paul’s Damascus experience is said to be the second most important event in Christian history except the crucifixion of Jesus. The majority of Christian theologians have made up the case based on the Acts of the Apostle. But the Acts of the Apostle has many contradictions in themselves, and contradicts the statements of Paul. Therefore, it is difficult to reconstruct the event accurately. This paper tried to find the true nature of the Paul’s Damascus experience by reviewing the historicity of the Acts of the Apostle and comparing the descriptions of the Acts of Apostle with the history of early Christianity. First, the Acts of Apostle had a tendency to make up a story using the events of Old Testament as a model rather than to describe the facts as they were. Paul’s Damascus experience was made up in a similar way of prophets’ calling stories of the Old Testament. Thus, the story of the Acts of the Apostle is a literary construct. But the story of the Acts of Apostle is not entirely fiction. It is certain that Paul had an important experience in Damascus, and that it led him to pursue a whole new faith. And the core of the contents of the Acts of Apostle that is, the risen Jesus ordered him to be witnesses to both Jews and Gentiles, is also in good harmony with the history of the early Christianity.
