Report Errors
This study was designed to identify the key issues of Korea’s defense policy by applying Text Network Analysis, the latest analysis company based on big data, to The 2018 Defense White Paper.
According to the analysis, military / ministry of national defense / the public / military personnel / korea and the US / defense / training / nation / Korean Peninsula / plan were the top keywords in the case of frequency analysis. In the case of the degree centrality analysis, the top keywords were military / ministry of national defense / the public / the military / Korean Peninsula / threat / defense / military personnel and security. For efficient discussion, CONCOR was used and this analysis categorizes the 37 keywords into four groups: Defense Policy Issues (17), Foreign Affairs and National Security Policy (6), Military Policy (9), and Policy Cooperation (5).
Based on the analysis results, this study suggests that it is necessary to incorporate text mining which uses big data technology into the area of defense policy, and that it is also necessary to actively develop research on the official reports and publications by government on national security, defense policy, military strategy. In addition, this study also suggests that we need to orient our appoach towards ROK-US from a strategic and a practical perspective, and that we need to set our policy line, considering North Korea’s dual position with us
