The purpose of this study is to survey elementary studentsmisconception on reproduction and genetics unit inbiological science. It is also to provide basic data for the effective teaching strategies which help students have theappropriate scientific conceptions. In order to investigate studentsmisconceptions, 19 questions were developedbased on the analysis of science curriculum for elementastudents of 6th grade in Jeju-city and Bukjeju-gun, Jeju-Do. χ2test was performed to do frequency comparison bygender and counties. Analysis of variance was also used to investigate significant differences among the reasons ofconception selection. Among 19 questions, 5 questions in plants and 4 questions in animals were appeared extent ofmisconception over 50%. The forming causes of misconception were mainly influenced by textbook and teacher. Thereasons of conception selection showed statistically significant differences between right conception andmisconception in 5 questions. According to the gender, the selection reasons of 3 questions were significantlydifferent between male and female students. And students living Jeju-city and Bukjeju-gun showed significantdifferences in the selection reasons of 2 questions. Therefore, it was concluded that this study may help teachersreconsider elementary students conceptions for reproduction and genetics and to be successful in the teaching-learning processes.
