This paper proposes that receptor response, the essential element in contemporary translation studies, must be in the center of translation, especially when it comes to translating children's picture books, which is a truly amusing work, as it involves not only the verbal but also the visual. Nevertheless, the importance of non-verbal elements has been ignored, which led to the failure in achieving equivalent receptor response. Also, in translating the verbal, too much emphasis has been put on the mere intelligibility of the target language, resulting in the response discrepancy between the source and target text readers. In an attempt to bring attention to the importance of receptor response in translation and to propose measures to narrow response discrepancy, this paper will first study the difference between formal and dynamic equivalence. Then, definition and overview of picture books will be given, before exploring and examining Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are and its translation as a case study.
