The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of the teaching based on the subject matters of biologists on non-science major highschool students' biology learning motivation, their attitudes toward biology subject, and their images of biologists. For this purpose, selected as the research subject were sixty-three students in the intensive course of liberal arts and social studies of a boys highschool located in a regional city who had chosen their subject as BiologyⅠ, and a teaching was carried out based on the subject matters of biologists in the tenth curriculum comprised of such phases as liberal exploration, term introduction, question formulation, and application. As a result of the study, first, the teaching based on the subject matters of biologists was effective for improving the non-science major students' biology learning motivation, including intrinsic motivation and personal relevance; self-efficacy and assessment anxiety; self-determination; and career motivation. Second, regarding the introduction of reading materials related to biologists, summarization of scientific notions, and biologists' achievements and theories, a series of activities including self-driven question formulation, answer completion, and searching for practical cases had also positive effects on improving the non-science major students' attitudes toward biology subject. Finally, as a consequence of analyzing their images of biologists, the teaching based on the subject matters of biologists was found to be effective for escaping them from the standardized image on scientists.
