In an esthetic salon, in which services are provided through one-on-one contact between customers and employees, the latter’s role is very important. Many businesses have concentrated on the management of human resources and used mentoring as a pro-active alternative for managing human resources. Therefore, this study attempted to help esthetic salon employees understand mentoring after verifying the effects of mentoring functions on mentor trust, expression of positive emotions and organizational commitment and provide them with useful information for the effective operation of an esthetic salon. For this, the employees of esthetic salons located in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do were studied. A total of 274 questionnaires distributed from September 20 to October 10, 2016 were analyzed, using a 5-point Likert scale. For data analysis, frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, estimation of Cronbach’s α, correlation analysis, linear regression analysis and 3-step mediated regression analysis were conducted, using SPSS v. 21.0. The results found that mentoring has a significant effect on mental trust, expression of positive emotions and organizational commitment, and mentor trust increases the expression of positive emotions and organizational commitment. In addition, mentor trust satisfied partial mediation conditions in a relationship of mentoring, expression of positive emotions and organizational commitment. In other words, mentoring can have a positive effect on customer satisfaction and improvement of organizational competitiveness as well as on the achievement of organizational goals, establishment of trust among employees and synergy effects at work. Therefore, esthetic salon employees should make continued efforts for the timely introduction and implementation of mentoring.
