The purpose of this study is to causally investigate the relationship between mentoring, self-leadership, immersion in the major, and the intention to continue the major of dance majors. The subjects of this study were dance majors enrolled in the dance department of four-year universities located in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, and data from 219 people were used in the final analysis. Key Statistical analysis was carried out a regression analysis and the results are shown below.
First, the mentoring factors of dance majors did not have a statistically significant effect on the behavior-oriented strategies of self-leadership. In the constructive thinking strategy, only the counseling functional mentoring and practical functional mentoring of mentoring had a positive effect on the natural compensation strategy, and only the social functional mentoring had a positive effect. Second, among the mentoring factors of dance majors, only practical skill mentoring had a positive effect on immersion in the major. Third, among the mentoring factors of dance majors, only practical skill mentoring had a positive effect on the intention to continue majoring. Fourth, among the factors of self-leadership of dance majors, action-oriented strategy and constructive thinking strategy had a positive effect on major immersion. Fifth, among the factors of self-leadership of dance majors, only the action-oriented strategy had a positive effect on the intention to continue majoring. Sixth, the immersion into the major of the dance major had a positive effect on the intention to continue the major.
These results suggest that the mentoring system in the dance major increases the active dance activities of the dance major, which in turn increases the satisfaction with the major and the intention to continue dancing in the future.
