In this article, we attempted to argue that the central role of persons with disabilities is essential for the construction of a peaceful human society, through dialogue between sociology and theology. The text of this article consists of three parts, the first part is a realistic analysis of the correlation between people with disabilities and peace. It examines the social conditions of the handicapped and the church situation, as well as what the handicapped can contribute to the peace of human society. In the second part, we examined the extent to which the social relation theory of the disabled was developed in two areas of sociology and theology. As a result, in sociology, the concept of “inclusion” used in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was at its peak, and in theology, the concept of “embrace” that Miroslav Volf used in his famous “exclusion and embrace(inclusion)”. We have found that this one concept has similar limitations in both sociology and theology, and that it has different limitations and attempts to interact with this concept. The third part concludes that the contribution of people with disabilities to peace is a ‘central role’ in which both sociology and theology can agree. To prove this, we have socially and theologically illuminated the concept of “mission from the margins” in the WCC Mission Theological Statement “Toward Living Together (2013)”, thus completing the dialogue with the sociology.
This work is organized as a paper that logically confirms the contribution of the theology of the disabled to peace theology.
